Trip, Delaware River, Riegelsville to Tinicum, Moving Water/Class 1 Rapids

Paddle this pretty section of the Delaware River lined by wooded bluffs and high rock cliffs. This section of the river has smooth waters and simple well-spaced riffles and class 1 rapids. Anticipated trip time for this 12-mile paddle is approximately 5 hours.  We will take breaks and eat lunch along the way.  The Delaware river is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes from the Philadelphia Canoe Club.

Meet at Riegelsville NJ Boat Ramp, 15 Old River Rd, Milford, NJ, Coordinates 40.591963932331126, -75.18854591513076.  We will drop off the boats and leave several participants there to look over them while we shuttle our cars to Tinicum Park.  There is a porta potty at this location.

Take Out at Tinicum Park River Access Parking, 963 River Road, Upper Black Eddy, PA 18920  Coordinates: 40.50677004213892, -75.06810031127195 At the end of the trip, we plan to use the vehicles that we left at Tinicum Park to take drivers back to Rieglesville to get their vehicles and get everybody and the boats back to Tinicum Park.  There are bathrooms (red building) across the road in the park from the parking lot.

To Go On This Trip: Click "REGISTER" and complete the registration Information.  Participants must have completed an American Canoe Association (ACA) Waiver.  ACA members complete an online waiver when joining or renewing their membership.  Individuals who are not ACA members may either complete a 1 day event membership paper waiver and pay $10 cash the morning of the trip or join the ACA for $40 which provides insurance for trips for the next year.

Requirements: 

  • Transportation of your boat and gear to the trip location.
  • Wear a PFD while on the water and you should have a whistle.
  • Wear quick drying clothes suitable for getting wet.  If the weather is cool dress in layers and have a set of dry clothes with you in the boat.
  • Protect your toes, wear water or close-toed shoes.

Suggestions (for your comfort):

  • Bring water to drink and lunch.
  • Bring a dry bag or waterproof container for your personal belongings/extra clothes.
    Have a secure place to carry your car keys.
  • Have a set of dry clothes in your car if you want to change for the ride home.
