A beautiful paddle through a narrow uncrowded valley past woodlands, Blue Mountain, farms a few houses and under 1 covered bridge. A swift, smooth float with ripples throughout. Potentially navigate through a few strainers the initial miles. We will stop for lunch along the way. There is one dam to portage. Time on the water for this 11.2 mile paddle is approximately 5 hours. Maiden Creek is 85 minutes from the Philadelphia Canoe Club.
Maiden Put In Meet at 124 Creek Road, Kempton, PA, Coordinates: 40.634808500639785, -75.85539376335055. We will drop off the boats and leave a participant there to look over them while we shuttle our cars to Ontelaunee Lake. When we return from the shuttle we will park the car(s) on the other side of Creek Road at the Track Run Kempton park parking lot.
Take Out at Parking Area Lake Ontelaunee Trails, 1561 – 1599 Moselem Spring Rd, Hamburg PA. Coordinates: 40.50103220620491, -75.88868721786521. At the end of the trip, we will use the vehicles that we left at Lake Ontelaunee to take drivers back to North Park and get everybody and their boats back together.
To Go On This Trip: Click "REGISTER" and complete the registration information. Participants must have completed an American Canoe Association (ACA) Waiver. The ACA is updating their online waiver platform. In the interim all participants must complete a paper waiver the morning of the trip if you did not already complete one on a 2026 trip. You will need your ACA membership number to complete the waiver. Individuals who are not ACA members must pay $10 cash for a 1 day event membership the morning of the trip.
Requirements:
Dress appropriately for cool weather paddling. The water temperature will be in the 40's and the air temperature forecast is a high in the 70's with sun and clouds. There are many online sources of information on how to dress. Click here for a link to one such online source from Paddle Boston. Have a set of dry clothes with you in the boat.
