Canoe: Basic Instruction

Basic canoe instruction for the beginner on flatwater to prepare you for future classes.
This basic canoe course teaches essential flatwater paddling skills, safety, and maneuvering, designed for beginners to gain confidence and competence. We will focus on entering and exiting the canoe, basic strokes to control the boat and necessary gear.
Safety & Equipment: Proper life vest (PFD) fit, entering/exiting, and canoe mechanics.
Fundamental Strokes: Forward, backward, draw, and pry strokes.
Class will be conducted on the Wissahickon Creek next to the Philadelphia Canoe Club.
You may paddle solo or tandem. For tandem, both students need to be registered for the class.

Cancellation policy:
1. Students may cancel 5 days before class for 80% refund.
2. No refunds for no-shows.
3. Cancellations 4 days or closer to date of class – refunds will be half price.
