WHITEWATER KAYAKING Not-So-Novice TRAINING 

May 30th (Friday Evening, 5:30 p.m.)

Weekend 1 - May 31st and June 1st

Weekend 2  - June 7th & 8th, 2025

This class is part of the Philadelphia Canoe Club (PCC) Whitewater Kayaking Novice Training Class. It is designed as a step-up class for students who have taken novice training or have whitewater skills and experience; and wish to improve.

Prerequisites: 

• You must be comfortable on class II Whitewater (like the Lehigh River) and have taken the PCC Novice Training course or equivalent. 
• You must be able to perform the basic paddling skills taught in a novice course. You should be comfortable underwater while performing wet exits and familiar with "J" leans, hip snaps and braces.

Venue: Schuylkill River, Lehigh River, or appropriate river to be determined by instructor.

Note:  You may take the first weekend only.

Lehigh Weekend: Tent camping only at Whitewater Challengers in the Poconos is included for Friday and Saturday nights (June 6 & 7). A dinner will be provided at the campground on Saturday evening, June 7 in the pavillion.

Course Description:

This course will review the basic kayaking skills taught in the Philadelphia Canoe Club Novice Training Course and will concentrate more on river safety, river reading, improving paddling strokes, eddy turns, peel outs and ferries.

Class begins Friday Evening (May 31) with a mandatory orientation. 
IMPORTANT: Bring your kayak and essential gear.  Class will begin in the water Friday evening.

Successful completion of this course will allow students to participate in Philadelphia Canoe Club’s (PCC) Wednesday Night Flat Rock Practice on the Schuylkill River and club trips.

Full Course Cost:  

$309 Adults, (ACA Members $299)

You may take the first weekend only:

$190 Adults, (ACA Members $180)

Cancellation policy:

1. Students may cancel 5 days before class for 80% refund.
2. No refunds for no-shows.
