Practice, Attaining, Ferrying and Portaging, PCC to Flat Rock Dam, Schuylkill River, Moving Water to Class 2 Rapids

Paddle approximately 3 miles upriver from the club to the base of Flat Rock Dam and return to the club.  Practice attaining (paddling against the currant), ferrying and portaging around the rock ledges near the dam.  This practice is for people who have completed a PCC class and/or are experienced paddlers. There is no formal instruction, but we all learn, watch out for each other and offer tips to improve our river skills.  Helmets (club helmets are available for use) are recommended for this practice.  The time on the water for this practice is approximately 4 hours. 

Participants must be American Canoe Association (ACA) members andcomplete an online waiver.  Uncertain if you have a waiver?  Log into the ACA Website, click “My Profile” and “Date Annual Waiver Expires”.  If it is expired or has never been done click hereto complete it.  Non-members are encouraged to join ACA and complete the waiver.  The $40 membership provides insurance for club events for the next year.  The day of the trip ACA members without an annual waiver (bring your membership number) and non-members (pay $10 cash for a 1 day event membership) can complete a paper waiver.

Requirements (for your safety): 

• Wear quick drying clothes suitable for getting wet.  If the weather is cool dress in layers.
• Protect your toes, wear water shoes or close-toed shoes.

Suggestions (for your comfort):

• Bring water to drink.

Rain, inclement weather, or high or low water levels can cancel or reschedule this practice.
