The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area provides a unique opportunity to experience tranquil landscapes, rich human history, and striking scenery on this 27 mile trip on the longest free-flowing river east of the Mississippi. This river has glass-smooth waters and simple well-spaced riffles and a few class 1 rapids in-between. The campground is accessible by car and boat.
Paddling and camping schedule.
Day 1: Drive from home to the put in, run the shuttle to the takeout.(campground). Leave all camping gear in your vehicle. 13.5 mile paddle to the campground. Set up camp for the night after the paddle.
Day 2: Break camp/load cars, run the shuttle to the day 2 take out and paddle 13.5 miles. The only things in our boats will be lunch, water and gear needed for the day’s paddle. The Delaware river is approximately 2 and hours and 15 minutes from the Philadelphia Canoe Club.
Camping Cost will not exceed $25 per person. There is a flat fee for the group campground that will be divided equally between participants. Payment in cash the first day of the trip.
Typical camping equipment to bring:
- Tent
- sleeping bag
- cots/air mattress/sleeping pads
- swim gear
- eating utensils
- chair for the camp fire
- hammocks or car camping are welcome
- rain gear
Meals: Bring your lunch for both days. Everyone is asked to bring food to share for potluck style meals for dinner and breakfast. We will have cooler(s) and ice for items that need to be refrigerated and a camp stove for anything that needs to be cooked/heated up.

Participants must be American Canoe Association (ACA) members and complete an online waiver. Uncertain if you have a waiver? Log into the ACA Website, click “My Profile” and “Date Annual Waiver Expires”. If it is expired or has never been done click hereto complete it. Non-members are encouraged to join the ACA and complete the waiver. The $40 membership provides insurance for club events for the next year. The day of the trip ACA members without an annual waiver (bring your membership number) and non-members (pay $20 cash for a 2 day event membership) can complete a paper waiver.
Requirements on the water (for your safety):
- Wear a PFD while on the water and you should have a whistle.
- Wear a bathing suit or quick drying clothes suitable for getting wet. If the weather is cool dress in layers and have a set of dry clothes with you in the boat.
Suggestions (for your comfort) on the water:
- Bring water to drink and lunch.
- Bring a dry bag or waterproof container for your personal belongings/extra clothes.
- Have a secure place to carry your car keys.
Rain, inclement weather, or high or low water levels can cancel or reschedule the trip.
