Whitewater Wednesdays - Flatrock

  • 12 Jun 2024
  • 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM
  • 4900 Ridge Ave

Join us on the Schuylkill for whitewater kayak and canoe practice, between Flatrock Park in Gladwyne and the club. We'll meet at the club at 5:30pm to pick up boats, then shuttle/carpool together up to the put-in in Gladwyne.

We enter via a boat ramp, paddle across a short lake, then portage flatrock dam carrying boats down a steep gravel path.  Then the fun begins with a series of class 2 rapids including Flatrock, Anne's Rock, and Disneyland. There are ample opportunities to practice ferrying and catching eddies, and a few good waves for surfing.

These practices are for people who have completed novice whitewater training. There is no formal instruction but we all learn, watch out for each other and offer tips to improve our river skills.

ACA membership and waiver is required ($10 for the day or $40 for the year). Use of club boats is an additional cost ($15 per event or $60 for the year). There is no cost for ACA/PCC members using their own boat.  If these fees are getting in the way of your paddling, contact social@philacanoe.org to discuss options.

Bring a snack, water, and dry clothes to change into afterwards!
