Trip, Perkiomen Water Trail, Class I Rapids, Moving Water

Heavy rainfall this week has raised water level sufficiently to start the trip on the less frequently traveled upper Perkiomen Water Trail.  Paddle through class 1 rapids, ripples and moving water past wooded gorges and bluffs and the town of Schwenksville.  The time on the water for this 7-mile paddle is approximately 4 hours including a break for a late lunch or snack.  There is 1 portage around a dam.  We will eat lunch at the portage. The Perkiomen Creek is approximately 45 minutes from the Philadelphia Canoe Club.

Requirements (for your safety):

•  Wear a PFD while on the water and you should have a whistle.
•  Dress appropriately for cool spring weather paddling.  The forecast is for partial sun and upper 50 degree air and upper 40 degree water temperatures.   Dress in layers.  Air trapped between layers is good insulation, and adding or removing a layer of clothing allows easy comfort adjustment.  Wear or have a windproof and waterproof outer layer to increase their effectiveness.  Have extra layers and a set of dry clothes with you in the boat in a dry bag or waterproof bag/container.
  

• Bring water to drink and a snack/lunch.
• Bring a dry bag or waterproof container for your personal belongings/extra clothes.
• Have a secure place to carry your car keys.
• Have a set of dry clothes in your car if you want to change for the ride home.

Participants must be American Canoe Association (ACA) members and complete an online waiver.  Uncertain if you have a waiver?  Log into the ACA Website, click “My Profile” and “Date Annual Waiver Expires”.  If it is expired or has never been done click here to complete it.  Non-members are encouraged to join ACA and complete the waiver.  The $40 membership provides insurance for club events for the next year.  The day of the trip ACA members without an annual waiver (bring your membership number) and non-members (pay $10 cash for a 1 day event membership) can complete a paper waiver.

Rain, inclement weather, or high or low water levels can cancel or reschedule the trip or change the trip location.
