Some boat control experience necessary.

This clinic will focus on improving your forward, backward and cross forward stroke. The forward stroke is hardest to learn and is a lifelong learning process. There are two kinds of "J" strokes, "Traditional J" for cruising and "River J" for whitewater. Paddling backward is necessary for back ferry boat control in twisty moving water or whitewater.

Topics Will Include:

  • ·      Two types of “J” Strokes –
Traditional "J" with palm roll
Goon Stroke (aka Whitewater "J")
  • ·      Forward, Backward, Cross Forward
  • ·      The Brakes – How to stop a canoe
  • ·      Backward with reverse “J”
  •     Bracing

You may use either a whitewater or flat water canoe. Tandem students need to bring their partner.

Cost: ($25 ACA-Members)  ($35 Non-ACA Members)
