Trip, Salem River, Flat Water

  • 26 Oct 2023
  • 9:45 AM
  • Salem River, Manningtown Township, NJ

The Salem River is a beautiful stream that empties into the Delaware River near the Delaware Memorial Bridges. The surroundings are mostly wetlands, ranging from maple swamp to marsh. It was dammed many years ago to provide a freshwater source for the DuPont Chambers Works and Atlantic City Electric. Therefore, this section of the river is a reservoir with no discernible current.  This is a 3 hour out and back paddle.  Break spots along the river are very limited so we will take an in-water break.  Bring a folding chair and lunch to eat at the boat ramp at the end of the trip.  The Salem River is approximately 55 minutes from the Philadelphia Canoe Club.

Participants must be American Canoe Association (ACA) members and complete an ACA online waiver.  ACA membership provides liability insurance for club events. Uncertain if you have a waiver?  Log into the ACA Website, click “My Profile” and “Date Annual Waiver Expires”.  If it is expired or has never been done click here to complete a waiver.  Non-ACA members are encouraged to join and complete an annual waiver before the trip.  The $40 membership provides insurance for Club events for the next year.  The day of the trip ACA members without an annual waiver (bring your ACA membership number) and non-ACA members can complete a paper waiver.  Non-ACA members must pay $10 in cash for a one-day event membership.
