Maurice River Marshmallow Paddle-September 3, 2023
The Marshmallows (a flower in the hibiscus family) are still in bloom! With vibrant colors of red, pink and white they line the banks of the Maurice River.
The Maurice also has abundant wildlife that includes bald eagles, blue herons, turtles and snappers. It is a narrow, twisty river that is fun to paddle that may include a few duck-unders and carry-overs. The water is clear with over hanging trees for shade and wind protection. The lunch stop allows for cooling off with a dip in the river. This description cannot fully depict what a gem it is so close to Philadelphia.
We will meet 10:30 a.m. at Almond Road Park, (2 Almond Road, Pittsgrove, NJ 08318). The paddle is about six miles long. It will end at Sherman Avenue, in Vineland.
