Lehigh River Trip Whitehaven-Rockport

  • 08 Jul 2023
  • 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM
A group of us are going from Whitehaven to Rockport along the Lehigh river.  This run is a great way to improve your skills after taking the novice whitewater kayaking class. The Lehigh is a beautiful run as the river curves between wooded hillsides.  We are all learning every day on the river, but keep in mind there is no formal instructor for this trip.  We will be providing mutual aid and all looking out for each other as a group.

Anticipate moderate class 2+ rapids with 2-4 ft drops and waves.

Good boat control including the ability to slow yourself by pulling into eddies behind rocks is important.

You must wear helmet, PFD, and skirt and be sure to have airbags in your boat.

Be prepared to demonstrate a wet exit and/or roll as needed in the event of a capsize.

Pack a lunch, snacks, and water for the river.

Bring a bag with dry clothes to leave at the takeout in Rockport.

We get usually get off the river in the late afternoon or early evening and may stay in the area for dinner together.

We will be leaving from the canoe club at 7:30 am and meeting at the Whitehaven put-in at 9:30 to arrange shuttle.  If you're interested in joining please message the PCC Crew facebook messenger group or you can text Jean at 412-513-5499.
