4 Day Novice Kayak Training

Traditionally this is PCC's most popular and most comprehensive whitewater class which will prepare the student to run class 2 whitewater in the student's choice of either kayak or canoe. Course content includes proper clothing, equipment review, strokes, boat control, safety, water reading, and good river judgement.
You may choose to take Part 1 only of the class but must take Part 1 before taking Part 2. Part 2 is a graduation trip where you will apply the skills you learned in Part 1 to a little more challenging whitewater.
Class will be begin with an evening classroom session which includes safety, equipment fitting and program logistics, followed by a two-day weekend training class on the Schuylkill River (or venue determined by your instructors). The second weekend will be a held on the Lehigh River in the Poconos with camping and a banquet dinner Saturday Evening.
HOW TO DRESS: Be prepared to be wet all day. Clothing suggestion: Quick Drying Shorts and Shirt, Swimsuit, windbreaker or rainjacket, closed water shoes or sneakers (no sandals or barefeet). Additional information regarding dress will be discussed at the dry session.
THINGS TO BRING: Classes on the water begin 8:30 a.m. (or otherwise instructed) on Saturday at the Philadelphia Canoe Club, 4900 Ridge Avenue. Please bring a lunch. Change of clothes, towel, noseplugs (may make you more comfortable), strap to secure glasses, sunblock, snacks and drinking water in unbreakable bottle. You may use the shower at the conclusion of the day.

Philadelphia Canoe Club, Evening Classroom Session (6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Philadelphia Canoe Club).
(Weekend 1) Schuylkill River, Philadelphia (Class begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at Philadelphia Canoe Club).
(Weekend 2) Camping Trip to Lehigh River, White Haven, Pennsylvania
(We will camp at Whitewater Challengers on Friday and Saturday, your instructor will provide you with the details for this trip).
(Price includes boat, paddle, lifejacket, helmet, camping fee and banquet dinner).
